How Do Hydroelectric Power Stations Generate Electricity?

1. Reservoir or river water source: Hydroelectric power stations are usually built near reservoirs or rivers and use the kinetic energy of water flow to generate electricity.

2. Diversion system: Water is introduced from a reservoir or river into a hydroelectric power station through a diversion system. The water diversion system includes channels, pipes and other facilities to guide water flow to the location of the turbine.

3. Water turbine: When water flows through a water turbine, the kinetic energy of the water is converted into mechanical energy. A water turbine is a rotating turbine that is driven by water flow.

4. Generator: The turbine is connected to the generator. The rotation of the turbine drives the generator to rotate, producing electricity. Movement between the coils and the magnetic field within the generator creates an electric current.

5. Transmission system: The electricity generated by the generator is transported to where it is needed through the transmission system. The power transmission system includes transformers, transmission lines and other facilities, which transport electrical energy to cities, factories and other places for power supply.

Through the above steps, hydroelectric power stations use the kinetic energy of water flow to generate electricity, achieving clean and renewable energy production. This form of energy has less impact on the environment and is characterized by sustainable development.
